GIANT STEPS
Giant Steps Melbourne operates a School and Adult Services Program specifically for children and adults with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Autism is a lifelong neurological/developmental disorder which affects social and communication skills, and to a greater or lesser degree, motor and language skills. Autism is a high prevalence disability, with current rates at around 1 in 54 (CDC, 2020). The world leading program at Giant Steps is transdisciplinary meaning intensive occupational, speech and music therapies are combined with educational programs catering specifically for each individual student.
Giant Steps Melbourne has had remarkable success teaching autistic children to communicate more effectively, integrating them into mainstream schools, helping them develop functional life skills and providing them the opportunity to achieve milestones previously thought unattainable.
Giant Steps Melbourne offers the following services: School; Adult Autism Services; Mental Health Clinic; and Vacation Care. Based in Kew, Giant Steps accepts students from across Melbourne and has a sister school located in Gladesville, Sydney.
Giant Steps Melbourne was established in 2016 in response to the overwhelming demand for a specialist school for children on the autism spectrum in Victoria.
Giant Steps is open to students from all walks of life, is nondenominational and does not charge fees. Giant Steps Melbourne is located at 11 Malmsbury Street, Kew. Phone (03) 9853 9578. To learn more about Giant Steps please visit our website.
